INTRODUCTION TO THE ELLIOTT SIXTH FORM Our 6th Form is intellectually exciting and socially challenging.
Apart from our excellent academic programme outlined below, our aim is to create a variety of activities which make intellectual, social and moral demands on the students. Our programme includes music groups, extra-curricular theatre and film visits, the Sixth Form Society, voluntary work in the community, lunchtime discussion groups, assisting in the main school, in drama productions, participating in the production of the Sixth Form Bulletin and much more. Our Sixth Formers are encouraged to take part in an Outward Bound programme which involves working together co-operatively and team-building.
The following is a brief description of the range of courses we hope to offer to Elliott Sixth Formers in the academic year 2007/2008. The course comprises: 12 - BTEC This excellent course provides young people with a bridge to further education, training or work. Its flexibility means that it is very valuable, both for students who want a broad based introduction to the world of work and for those who want to study in a specialised area. It is also possible to progress to Higher Education.
On the Course there is one option: Business.
12A - A wide range of A level subjects for First Year Sixth Students
Traditionally, this has been a very successful course. For the last ten years the A level pass rate has been over 94%. This year it was 98.6% Almost 57% of students got A & B grades and over 82.4% got A-C grades. This is substantially better that the Inner London average for schools, and better than the national average for Sixth Form Colleges and tertiary colleges (96%). The record of success of Sixth Formers in Higher Education applications has also been very pleasing. In particular Elliott's success rate in Oxbridge applications has been high. In the last 13 years 43 students have gained places at either Oxford or Cambridge. Students won 70 Higher Education places from last year's applications and 80 from the year before that. All A-Level syllabuses (now called specifications) have been revised into six assessment units (modules) each with a weighting of approximately 15-20%. The first three modules are called Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and are studied during Year 12. The second three modules are at full A-Level standard (A2) and are studied during Year 13. These changes were introduced in September 2000. The modules are separately certificated and an AS grade is awarded after the first three modules have been successfully completed. Students in Year 11 must gain at least 5 A-C grades at GCSE to begin AS Levels. Preferably you will have at least 'B' grades in the subjects you want to study at AS Level. The
AS Levels we hope to offer in 2007 include: Currently, we offer Film, ICT and PE at AS Level only
The Sixth Form at Elliott has a tradition of excellence. It is a comprehensive, open access Sixth Form. This means that students wishing to continue their education in the Sixth Form are welcome to do so, provided that they meet the entry requirements of the course they wish to study. During their period in the Sixth Form a high standard of attendance (at least 92%), punctuality and conduct is required. If you are interested and would like any further information and/or to visit the school please contact Mr Taylor (Head of Sixth) or Mr Howard (Deputy Head of Sixth) on 020 8788 3421- extensions 152 or 160 respectively.
