Chemistry
|
Chemistry is a crucially important subject. It provides the
basis for our most important industries and as an A level subject it
is essential for further studies in the Sciences or Medicine. A
level Chemistry complements many other A level subjects, such as
Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Geography.

| The Course |
The course has a modular structure: |
| AS-Level |
Unit 1 Structure, bonding and main group
chemistry
Unit 2 Introductory organic chemistry, energetics, kinetics and
equilibria
Unit 3 Laboratory chemistry I |
| A-Level |
Unit 4 Periodicity, quantitative equilibria and functional group
chemistry
Unit 5 Transition metals, quantitative kinetics and applied
organic chemistry
Unit 6 Laboratory chemistry II

| Assessment |
AS Level
Both AS and A2 levels are assessed using three written papers. Year 12
AS Chemists take a Practical Exam of one hour and 45 minutes in the May
of Year 12.
Year 13 A2 Chemists undertake around 10 pieces of assessed coursework
throughout the year.

| Entry Requirements: |
1. Two Bs at GCSE Science
2. Students must be mathematically confident with a C minimum at GCSE.
