Basketball
success
for Elliott in Wandsworth competition. |
|
On Friday 4th December,
four local and enthusiastic Secondary schools
battled out an epic Year 7 & 8 Basketball tournament
at the Battersea Sports Centre. The tournament,
hosted by Wandsworth School Sports Partnership and
coordinated by School Sports Coordinator Ashley
Montgomery, pitted each school against each other in
a round robin format.
Going into the final match of the night, Southfields
and Elliott had both won their matches against
Salesian College and Graveney respectively, with
Graveney recording their only win against Salesian
College in what turned out to be a third and fourth
playoff in the second last match of the night.
Elliott started the match very brightly and ran out
to an early lead, with Southfields looking tired
from previous matches. Although a time-out pep talk
with 5 minutes remaining appeared to bring
Southfields back to life, they were unable to
overcome the early deficit and Elliott held on to
take out the competition.

Festival
time at Elliott School
Friday 20th November, saw 160 Primary (Years 3 and

full day of sporting activities led by Elliott 6th

YEAR 7 NETBALL REPORT - November 2008
November saw the
launch of the Wandsworth School Sports Partnership Netball
Competitions, starting on the 18th November with the Year
7 Event. Working in partnership with Burntwood School, who kindly
agreed to host the event, 5 schools from across the borough came
together to battle it out for the title of Year 7 Champions. The
schools who took part were:
-
Ashcroft
-
Burntwood
-
Elliott
-
Southfields
-
St Cecilia’s
The format of the
league meant each of the 7 teams got to play each other, and the
standard of Netball on show was impressive given that the majority
of girls had only started playing the full version of the game since
September.
Burntwood CSLA
students were on hand to help umpire matches, time keep as well as
providing some much needed oranges at half time.
Overall, St Cecilia’s
went home with the Gold Medals, with Ashcroft a close second and
finally Burntwood a very respectable 3rd place.
Feedback from all
those involved in the event has been extremely positive, and it is
hoped to run a similar event in the New Year.
The Year 8 Netball
Competition takes place on Tuesday 2nd December 2008,
where we look forward to witnessing more impressive netball skills!
