The Course

 

 

 

Course description

This course is divided into the following units of study:

Outline Study : International relations (1919-1989) Including the causes of the second world war, the cold war, the collapse of USSR

Depth Study : USA 1919-1941

Depth Study : Britain 1906 - 1918

Coursework: Race Relations in USA, Britain during the Blitz

The course is intended to equip students to reach four main objectives:

1. to gain a sound historical knowledge and understanding of the units studied;

2. to handle key concepts such as causation and consequence, how and why changes occur at different speeds, sometimes in similar ways, more often in different ways;

3. to use historical evidence, judge its value and reliability, and form conclusions based upon it;

4. to look at events and problems of the past from the points of view of the people at the time, and working through the evidence they have left behind.

 

Assessment Written examination - 75%
Paper I 45%
Paper II 35%

Coursework
