The First World War

The study of the representation of the
Great War in literature allows students to view the same topic in a
wide variety of genres and from various points of view.
Texts studied range from wildly
patriotic poems to deeply disillusioned memoirs and range in time
from the contemporary to the modern.
Students develop a sense of the history
of the period and how responses to the war changed with
circumstances and time.
In the exam they will be expected to
apply their wider reading to underpin their understanding of a
selection of texts.
