English Homework

Homework Tips

  1. Use your homework diary.

    • Write down the homework

    • Make sure you understand it

    • Write notes on the task

    • Write down when it is due in

  2. If your homework is a writing task work at a table or desk - your presentation will suffer otherwise.

  3. If it is a reading task be an active reader - make notes as you read. If you are using a worksheet underline key phrases.

  4. If you are doing research always make a note of the source of your information. This might be:

    • Book - title, author, page reference

    • Magazine - title, author, date, page reference

    • Internet - the URL or web address.

  5. If you are researching media such as television or films be an active viewer. Have a notebook ready and try to work from recordings rather than live programs.

  6. For all your homework use a quiet, well-lit place. Don't try to do homework in front of the television (unless it is a media studies assignment).

  7. Do homework the day it is set; not on the night before it is due or on the bus.

  8. If you have problems with your homework, ask your teacher as soon as you can; don't wait until it is time to hand the work in.

  9. Re-read written homework just before it is due in - you may spot errors that you weren't aware of at the time of writing

  10. Tick off completed work in your homework diary.
