Alfie Gatehouse

At a ceremony held at the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Savoy Place London, on 31st October 2008, Alfie Gatehouse from Elliott School was awarded a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship for his outstanding work in design & technology.

Alfie’s award, is sponsored by the Ironmongers’ company and was presented by Sir Richard Poulon, Master of the worshipful company of Ironmongers. He was selected to receive the award after presenting his GCSE work to a selection panel demonstrating a commitment to design, technology and engineering and participating in a team activity. In all, 270 Scholarships were awarded, following applications from 800 candidates.

The Arkwright Trust was founded in 1990 and supports young people during their ‘A’ Level/Higher years by awarding £225 a year to assist with the purchase of materials and books. Alfie will also carry the status of ‘Arkwright Scholar’ into university. The school design & technology department receives £225 per year for the next two years.

 

 

 

September 2007 -  PRESTIGIOUS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO ELLIOTT SCHOOL STUDENT

Ethan Monaghan-Pisano is presented with his Certificate by Mr J P Hudson, Master of The Ironmongers' Company

At a ceremony held at the Institution of Engineering & Technology, Savoy Place London, in September 2007, Ethan Monaghan-Pisano was awarded a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship for his outstanding work in design & technology.

Ethan’s Scholarship is sponsored by the Ironmongers’ Company and was presented by Sir Alan Rudge CBE FREng FRS, Chairman, ERA Foundation.

Scholars are selected following a rigorous selection process comprising an application, Arkwright Aptitude Paper and interview. During the interview students present their GCSE project work to a panel of interviewers demonstrating a commitment to design, engineering and technology. Interviews are hosted across the country by universities. The interviewees participate in a team activity and tour the engineering / design departments. In all, 202 Scholarships were awarded, following applications from 743 candidates.

An Exhibition of a selection of A/S Level Project work was displayed by Arkwright Scholars' who received Scholarships in 2007.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology hosted the Presentation of Awards at their prestigious building in Savoy Place, London.
