Parents/Carers of Year 11

06/11/2009

Dear Parents/Carers,

As always, the Autumn Term is going fast, and I need to remind/tell you about some of the Year 11 events which will take place in the near future.

Thursday, November 12th:           6th form Open Evening for all Year 11 students

6.30 – 9.00 p.m.                               and parents.

Thursday, November 26th:           A*-C evening.    This is an additional evening

6.30 p.m.                                           which we have introduced.  It will focus on the

core subjects of English, Maths and Science,

and enable parents to help students achieve

                                                the various levels.

Tuesday, 8th December:                MOCK EXAMINATIONS BEGIN

Timetable can be found here.  N.B.  This is a change

in date, to give students longer to prepare.

Thursday, 28th January:               Year 11 Parents’ Evening.

4.00  - 7.00 p.m.                               Please ensure your son/daughter makes an

                                                            appointment with all staff!

February Half Term:                       Revision sessions – details later.

In addition, we have now identified some students who are in danger of not meeting their targets and who need additional support.  This will either be in the form of support from experienced ‘external’ mentors from London Challenge for the core subjects, or internal mentors as part of our ‘Assertive Mentoring’ scheme.  Parents of these students will be notified separately.

Also, when mock examination papers have been marked, parents of underachieving students will be written to separately, and special meetings set up.

Year 11 continues to be our priority for the year.  In the new term, for example, we will be buying in ‘Learning Performance seminars’ which proved very popular and successful in helping last year’s Year 11 to improve their grades.

We would welcome any comments from parents on how else we might support students to do their best next summer.

Yours sincerely,

Margaret Peacock

Headteacher
