Dear Parent,

Following on from my letter dated 3^rd April 2009, I am writing to update you all on the expected date for Elliott’s Ofsted report to be published and changes to the schools management. 

My previous letter explained the timetable of the school receiving the Ofsted report and its publication.  Unfortunately the report has been delayed due to the Easter break and we are now not expecting the report to be published until later this week or early next week.  Once the report has been published we will send you a copy and it will also be available on the  website.

There have been a number of articles in the local press and rumours circulating regarding the outcome of this inspection.  The feedback that the school has received from Ofsted highlights that the school has not made sufficient improvement in addressing all the areas of weakness identified at the last inspection and that actions for improvement have not been clearly focused.  However some improvement has been made across the school, such as in the quality of teaching and learning and the reduction in persistent absentees.  The governing body are committed to offering a high class education to all students and are working on an action plan in the areas that still require improvement. The school’s subsequent progress will be monitored by Ofsted each term.

As I previously mentioned, the governing body will be arranging a number of sessions in May for parents to attend by year group, to feed back the report’s findings, our actions for improvement and to answer any questions you may have on the school’s improvement plans.  I will write to you again shortly with the dates of these meetings.

After four years of leading Elliott School, Mrs Sharon Ferrell has decided that it is now time to take on a different type of challenge and contribute to the educational agenda in a variety of different ways.  At Mrs Ferrell’s request the governing body have agreed to release Mrs Ferrell from her current position of Headteacher at Elliott School from the 30^th April 2009.  I would like to thank Mrs Ferrell for her hard work and unwavering commitment to Elliott School.  Arrangements are in hand to appoint an interim headteacher until a substantive appointment is made for January 2010.
