Velkomin! Komš žiš sęll og blessašur!
In
early March a group of Year 9 visited Iceland as part of a
programme with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. The
students selected for funded places based on their excellent
work this year were Dajana Skoric, Sarah Ehirim, Daniel
Churchward and Eliot Heath-Griffiths who experienced Iceland’s
diverse and amazing landscape.
As
part of an action-packed programme the group visited the Blue
Lagoon or
"Blįa Lóniš" which is a geothermal spa and one of the most
visited attractions in Iceland. The students were able to swim
in the warm waters outside in temperatures below freezing with
snow falling around them! The group also travelled to the
Žingvellir
national park where cracks or faults in the earth can be seen as
two continental plates pull apart. With visits also made to the
waterfalls at Gullfoss, the geothermally active valley of
Haukadalur to see the geysers in action and a walk to the top of
the Keriš volcano crater this trip was truly memorable and an
experience which brings the practical implications of the study
of Geography and Languages to the fore.
Well
done to Dajana, Sarah, Daniel and Eliot for being excellent
ambassadors for Elliott School during the visit.
