Dear
Parents
P.E. LESSONS
As you
are aware, physical exercise is a vital element in every child’s
education and has become a key issue for the government, who have
outlined that every child should be participating in at least two
hours of physical activity it school. With this in mind, there will
be a change in policy over the provision of notes excusing pupils
from PE lessons.
Until
now, the PE Department has accepted parental notes explaining the
circumstances for children’s non-participation in PE lessons.
Unfortunately, this system has been abused through, for example, the
forging of notes by pupils and parental support for unacceptable
excuses.
The new
policy, which took effect from Monday 14th January, is as
follows:-
-
Only a doctor’s note or certificate will be
accepted as a reason for non-participation in PE lessons
-
Parents should not send any notes requesting
that a child is excused from PE
-
Those pupils who have minor injuries or
illness not covered by a doctor’s note or certificate must bring
their PE kit, change for the lesson and join their group to help
in, for example, officiating, distributing/collecting equipment
etc.
-
Those pupils whose non-participation is not
covered by a doctor’s note or certificate and who fail to bring
kit will receive a detention which will be conducted in line
with general school policy.
I know I can count on your support in ensuring
that all pupils benefit from the excellent PE programme on offer.
Through this, we can not only guarantee compliance with Government
regulations but also, and more importantly, contribute to the future
health of the nation.
Yours
sincerely
