How can parents help to promote language learning?

Parents are a key partner of the school in supporting children’s progress. This is how you can help.

• Speak to governors and teachers about the specific language needs of your child’s school

• Attend parental meetings and special events to show your own interest in languages

• If you can, support the acquisition of resources

• Use the resources provided by BBC and Channel 4

• Support your child by offering encouragement with homework and learning

• Encourage contact with native language speakers, at home and abroad

• Encourage children to dedicate time to learning of vocabulary and grammar
