The Language College Offer - Achieving Languages for All

 

Aims

 

To provide each student with the opportunity to:

1. gain a minimum of two foreign language  qualifications,
2. study at least two modern languages during their secondary education from amongst the following: French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Russian.
3. maintain an element of modern foreign language study in post 16 courses,
4. experience Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL),
5. gain knowledge and understanding of the history, geography, economy and culture of the countries whose languages are studied,
6. experience the languages studied being used by native speakers,
7. experience at least one study visit, one-to-one exchange, or work-shadowing scheme during secondary education,
8. use technology to aid language learning,
9. understand the role of modern foreign languages in today's society,
10. raise the standard of achievement across the age and ability range.

In addition we work with our community:


1. Lessons in French to primary age children providing language experience before they enter secondary school.
2. Evening classes for adults (French, Spanish and Japanese).
3. We work closely with institutes of higher education in the training of teachers of modern foreign languages.
4. Partnerships with 2 secondary schools.
5. Annual European Day of Languages event.
6. Sharing of good practice at Elliott with other schools.
