July 2008
On June 24th, our Carnegie Shadowing Group held its Carnegie Award Shadowing Event together with visiting schools, Burntwood and Graveney and workshops with authors, Ally Kennen, Anthony McGowan and Sarah Singleton.

Sarah Singleton also visited the Library earlier in the year and gave a talk on her recent  book "The Amethyst Child" which was also a great success.

Here's what one enthusiastic reviewer thought about Sarah Singleton's visit:

On Wednesday 14 May we had an author visit where the Carnegie team was invited. A year 9 class accompanied us. The fascinating author was Sarah Singleton. So far she has written 4 books, because she is also a journalist as well as an author. These are her books:

Sacrifice
Heretic
Century
The Amethyst child

This was a really good experience for me as I am into books so much, and it was my first impression of books influencing a gothic theme. Sarah Singleton was a very kind and friendly person to talk to. She had a very gothic appearance, which I thought might be relevant to what she wrote and is planning to write. I really enjoyed it. Also we had a chance to buy books and get an autograph. I bought all four, I hope I enjoy them, as I have never read a book based around a gothic theme. I really enjoyed listening and asking questions and getting extraordinary answers from the one and only Sarah Singleton. I would like to be involved in more author visits. A big thanks to our librarian Ms Coopland, who has organised this event and to Sarah Singleton for coming and telling us a bit about herself.
